October 2026 Applications are open for the October 2026 VLSI design cohort Apply Now

Physical Implementation with Innovus

You’ll be able to: Explain the semiconductor industry and the full ASIC & custom-IC flow; tell digital and analog design paths apart; read a chip spec.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

  • Final-year undergraduates
  • Graduates and back-end engineers
  • Degree in, or current enrolment in:
    Electrical & Electronic (EEE)
    Electronics & Communication (ECE)
    Electronics & Telecommunication (ETE)
    Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
    Other related disciplines
  • Assumed knowledge:
    Producing a gate-level netlist
    Reading a timing report
Linux comfort; a little Tcl helps

  • Eligibility is advisory, not a gate. Enrolment is open — if you meet the knowledge bar for a course, you are welcome in it whatever year you are in.

Screening Process

  • Step 1: Mini-Exam
  • Step 2: Online Interview

Load a netlist, libraries and constraints into Innovus.

Define die/core area and place macros sensibly.

Build a robust power distribution network.

Place pins and I/O for clean connectivity.

Place standard cells and optimise for timing.

Read congestion maps and fix hotspots.

Understand what a good clock tree looks like.

Run CTS and post-CTS optimisation.

Route the design and resolve DRC/DRV issues.

Close setup/hold and hand off a routed design.
